"The most challenging times, bring us the most empowering lessons"
Counselling, talking therapy, can seem daunting, perhaps even an overwhelming thought - do I need it? How does it work?
Surely just having a chat with a friend is the same thing?
Talking is something we do every day, but listening and being heard without judgement, without prejudice that is something rather different. Somewhere to be in the storms of life to reflect, repair and rejuvenate - being empathically heard, understood and reconnecting to our true selves. Where you, and you alone are the focus.
Welcome to Eventide Counselling my name is Charlie, I appreciate the courage that it takes to start on the road to therapy - I get it, I've been there.
My counselling training started 10 years ago, having undergone my own personal therapy journey. The uniqueness of the experience and growth that I felt in my self-awareness and well-being lead me to retraining to become a counsellor. I have completed my studies with The Devon and Cornwall Counselling Hub, training in a holistic mind, body and soul perspective. I currently Lead the counselling team in a University setting in Plymouth, alongside this I have a small private practice based in Tavistock and offer online sessions.
I use an integrative toolkit and client led creative approaches to explore presenting issues, looking at the roots of patterns of behaviour that no longer serve a purpose. I have deep empathic attunement, working relationally to see through your lens - giving space for you to process.
I primarily work with trauma, holding a safe, validating and congruent space for clients to explore the impact of trauma, difficult experiences whilst looking forward using coach skills to build the picture offuture that lies ahead. I use the Core Conditions (Carl Rogers) of empathy, unconditional positive regard, congruence and acceptance of all parts of self alongside a humanistic theory tool kit. I have found that this approach allows for flexibility, personalising the work to the needs of the client.
Therapeutic coaching
I am passionate about developing an understanding of living in the middle lane through a holistic sense of wellbeing, emotional literacy and EQ. Developing skills to thrive, self compassion and building bridges to creating and living happy and healthy, essential to thriving in our modern world with neurodiversity.
I have extensive experience of working with neurodiversity both in my private practice and in a creative university setting as a Lead Counsellor. I have developed a unique approach of learning to navigate the middle lane, understanding our unique skills to thrive and read the world better. I work from a holistic mind, body and soul perspective to improve wellbeing and work towards the future that you can see or explore with you options of what that could look like. Gently challenging fixed thoughts to open a window of tolerance, live life your way. As a neurodiverse counsellor I get it, I’ve worked extensively on my own understanding and developing skills to thrive.

I am a big believer in the fundamental point that you have the key 🔑 my role is to support and scaffold you to open the door to opportunities, self fulfilment and growth that you deserve! Wow that sounds BIG, it can also be little steps and changes that make differences. Exploring with you the map, where things were good and not so good.
I invite clients to bring music, photos and anything else that they feel brings a depth of understanding to the work. Sometimes a song lyric takes us back to a time or place, a photo can bring back memories of a moment in time or certain perfume can remind us of a person we love. I believe working in a multi sensory way can add depth to the therapeutic experience.
Very much optional and client led, interesting to ponder though - personally emotions and music are very much interconnected.
I offer evening appointments, daytime on a Friday and a limited number of weekend appointments, for more details use the contact page.
In April I am looking to set up a Mother's without Mother's Group - a space to share and learn from each other, supportive and holding . There will be space to share and also practical support offered . There will be more details to follow , the group will be a max of 8.
